Tagged by Tammy!

Tammy tagged me on her blog... this is actually one I haven't seen before!

My roommate and I once: drove to Disneyland for the weekend.

Never in my life have I: smoked or drunk alcohol

High school was : something I'd never repeat!  But I enjoyed it while I was there :)

When I'm nervous : I play with my hands or braid my hair

My hair : is wet and pulled back (woke up late this morning :-P)

When I was 5 : I lived in Denver

When I turn my head left : I see a picture of Melody and I in college

I should be : working

By this time next year : I want to be planning a trip to Peru!

My favorite aunt is : um... I don't know if I can pick a favorite.  I have 6, love them all!

I have a hard time understanding : how people can stand to drive slow

You know I like you if : I loan you something or scrapbook with you

My ideal breakfast is :  This varies, but right now I'd say traditional English with lots of sausage and stewed tomatos!

If you visit my home town :  we'll have killer food and see monuments and museums in DC

If you spend the night at my house : You'll be sleeping on a slightly leaky air mattress until I get an extra bed.

My favorite blonde is : Peter Forsberg (even though he's no longer an Av.  Sigh.)

My favorite brunette is : My adorable nephew, Ben :)

The animal I would like to see flying besides birds : Monkeys.  This can reference either the Wizard of Oz or Wayne's World.  Take your pick :D

I shouldn't have been : so ignorant about finances

Last night I: ate leftovers, watched The Illusionist, got on the treadmill with a book, framed some pictures and did a scrapbook layout!  (Yeah, for once it was productive :D)

A better name for me would be : Um... can't think of one.  Mine fits.

I've been told I look like : no one has ever said I "look like" someone.  Guess I'm unique!

If I could have any car, it would be: Saturn Aura or Dodge Nitro.  (Although the practical inner Gwen would overcome inner-wannabe-bad-a$$ Gwen and buy another Saturn.)

Since it's been a while since I've tagged anyone... Steph, Rae and Boo :)  And also my SIL Erin, (if you'd like to play :D)

And Lest I Forget...

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! to Melody and Vic! (and the new big sister Angelina :D)  Mel had her baby early Friday morning (3:05am).  A very healthy baby boy weighing in at a whopping 11lbs, 4 oz and 21.5".  Needless to say, he entered the world via c-section.  If I had internet on my phone, I'd send myself the picture Mel sent me.  This little cherub has the chubbiest cheeks you've ever seen and what looked like a full head of hair.  Can't wait to meet the little guy in person!

Random Blathering

You ever have those times where you're just kind of in a funk?  Yeah, I know, we all do :)  Lately I'm not quite sure what to do with myself when I get home from work.  Scrapbooking just hasn't been something I've felt like doing lately (although I did get a nice big fan for my attic this weekend, and it's fabulous!  I actually did a layout - see below).  All of the good shows are on break for the summer and I only get Netflix a few times a week.  I know, I'm lazy - I'm sure I could be better entertained if I actually left the house.

In any case, tonight I got home, whipped up a batch of pad thai (although since I couldn't get my peanut sauce I used a powdered sauce mix.  I don't recommend it.) and watched Take Home Chef.  Don't ask why, but I'm kind of hooked on it.

And speaking of TV, slight tangent here.  In an effort to find a good summer show, I decided last week to give Hell's Kitchen a go.  I watched the first two episodes and then the new one last night.  Is it just me or is that show seriously staged?  Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it.  I think it's hysterical.  Maybe it's just the dramatic music that makes all of the cheesiest moments seem fake.  Maybe I'm just a cynic.  Okay, I AM a cynic, but still.  Tangent over.

Anyway, tonight I did some yoga and then resorted to watching the Disney channel while on the treadmill.  Then I came up and sat in my scrap attic.  I want to scrapbook, I enjoy it (or I used to :-P), and I have a serious ton of photos that I'm dying to get into albums.  Lately, however, scrapbooking has been stressing me out.  I've just been feeling like my pages aren't what I want them to be - especially when I'm looking in the magazines.  But then I started going through stacks of completed layouts and I realized that I love all of the ones I did before I got this debilitating complex that's put me in a funk.  I enjoy looking at them, they make me happy, and I had a good time making them.  I have to admit, though, that lately, my funk has been pretty widespread.  I've just been feeling the apathy (as if no one would have figured that out from what I've already typed here... lol).  Then I went through the two albums that I've had my 2 years as a Chatterbox MIM finalist, and I just remembered why I do it and what I love about it.  I misted, even.  (Wow.  I think I've just broken a record for the most personal information and emotion shared on my blog.  Someone get a camera.)  I went through my first one, about my weight loss, and re-read all the journaling and really *looked* at the pictures.

I'm SO glad that I did that album and wrote the things I did.  I feel totally inspired to bust out of my funk and start getting back to being me :D

So, here's the layout I did this weekend and finished up tonight.  I just HAD to get those adorable little lion cubs scrapped.  That big picture of the cub in profile is one of my all time favorites.  I think it needs to be enlarged and hung on my wall.

And with that, sharing time is now over.  Never fear, I'm sure it will be at least another 2 years before I'm ready to do so much emoting in public again ;)

Because Stephanie Did...

Who did it because Sarina did... lol.

Your Monster Profile
Ultima Gaze

You Feast On: Hot Dogs

You Lurk Around In: The Backseats of Cars

You Especially Like to Torment: Crybabies

And did I mention that I just barely found out that Breaking Benjamin is going to be here next week? Of course, they're already sold out... grr... Anyone want to go to Adema instead? lol.

More Layouts :)

I finally started the Africa album!  I had these awesome new stamps from Kelly's next IT Kit and I wanted to use them for the title page - I figured they'd be perfect with the ticket stubs I saved for the trip out to Joburg as an introduction, so here's what I came up with :) Carpe_diem_revised

I also finally managed to scan another layout from my Paris trip - this one from the Arc de Triomphe.  I had a lot of fun playing with digital elements on this one and then stared at it for several days before I finally decided it was done.

Finally, I saw this on Ali's blog this morning and was totally inspired by it.  Exactly what I needed to hear today :)

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude, to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.

"It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home.

"The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way.

"We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude...I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes."

Ben's Birthday Weekend

Blog__king_of_the_playgroundWell now that I've dispensed with the posting that shows my enduring love of all things Jane Austen, on to Ben's Birthday weekend!  I drove up to Rexburg on Saturday to celebrate Ben's first birthday.  He was being especially cute all day and I was shocked at the number of pictures I had taken when I downloaded them last night.  Anyway, after I got there we went out to grab some lunch and run a few errands.  Ben and I bonded at the grocery store - he's in the stage where he makes lots of cute noises and says a few words but doesn't actually talk.  After that, we went back and Rick and I went to the little park at their complex while Erin worked on the cake.  Blog__playground_car

Around 5pm, friends and neighbors came by to have pizza and cake and watch Ben unrap his pile of presents.  This boy is definitely spoiled.  He had no clue what was going on - we had to take away each present after he opened it so that he would be interested in the next one.  It was really cute, though.  He would help tear off the paper and then when he saw what was inside, out would come this little stream of excited baby gibberish, frequently punctuated with two of the words he does know... "toy" and "wow."  The wows were my favorite.  Blog__blowing_out_candle

I got Ben the Busy Ball Popper.  After the guests left, we put it together and started playing.  Ben LOVED it.  I had bought it for him after seeing a commercial for it and thinking he would love it.  It was soooo cute to see him reacting just like the commercial!  He got so excited when the balls popped out and sometimes would try to keep them from coming out.  He even learned how to start it on his own.  I think it was almost as much fun for me as it was for him.

Blog__peekabooAnd on to another example of Ben being cute... Ben and Rick were playing peek-a-boo.  Ben would hide around the entertainment center in the living room and then pop around the corner to peek at daddy.

Sunday morning, Erin made pancakes and of course, Ben needed a little cleaning up afterwards so he got a little mini-bath in the kitchen sink.  He's totally fascinated by the stream of water from the faucet.  Again, just adorable.Blog__ben_in_sink

Unfortunately, not too long after it was time for me to take off to make it back to Utah for another work week :-P  But I'm so excited that I had the chance to be there to celebrate.  The rest of the pictures are here. :)

Quick Layout Share

Mels_baby_showerSo, surprising as this may be to some, I haven't scrapbooked since a week or two before I went to Mexico.  I know.  Shocking isn't it?  I think it mainly has to do with the fact that my adorable little scrapbooking attic is not climatized (being over the garage and all).  This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that my computer monitor and my lamp combine to funtion like 2-way heat lamps.  Okay in the winter, stifling in warmer weather.  BUT!  Now that I have about 1,500 new photos from Mexico, my layover in Germany and Africa (as if having photos to scrap was the problem... lol), I really want to get creating again.  So the other night I took advantage of the howling wind and rain with the accompanying plunge of temperature to get some scrapbooking done.  When I got back from Africa, I had a little package waiting from my wonderful online friend Kelly.  She just started a totally cool kit club called The IT Kit and I was dying to work with the stamp she designed from her very first kit.  I knew I wanted to use the stamp with flowers, so I picked the pictures to match the supplies.  Whatever it takes, right?  So here's a layout using some things from Kelly's kit and my stash and pictures from Mel's baby shower last month.  Now I'm all geared up to dive into my vacation photos, so hopefully the block is now past :)

Ben is One!

P4080089I can't believe this little guy is already one!  Happy Birthday to my adorable little nephew Ben!  I'm sure he's going to be spoiled rotten today, and I can't wait to see him this weekend to continue said spoiling :)
