This year I wanted to challenge myself to do another year-long class; the last two years I did Inspiration Wednesday (although I stopped in August 2016 and haven't yet finished - too much traveling the last half of the year!) but this year I wanted to try something different. I liked the idea of Wanderlust from Everything Art, since it looked like a good mix of teachers, techniques, and learning about different tools that I want to try. So I signed up and as the lessons have begun, I've been trying to keep from getting too far behind!
The first lesson was from Kasia Avery (one of the hosts) and was kind of an introduction - this lesson is the title page in my book, which is a new 11x11 handmade art journal (I'm LOVING both the book and the size!)
My statement for the year is "to learn, to explore, to grow."
Another close-up with some of the layers and texture on the page:
Week 2 was with Mary Wangerin and I really liked this one - it was kind of a mandala inspired project with a lot of layers and exploration.
If you look closely, you can see some hints of the many layers on this page:
Some fun texture too :)
Week 3 was with Wilna Furstenberg and I really enjoyed this one as well... I added a bit more color and pattern and made it more "me" (but we're supposed to do that, right?)
Close-up of some of the page elements... the flowers are all hand-painted with a detail brush and acrylic ink. I added stenciling on top.
Week 4 was a break for catching up (I'm so glad they built those in!) Week 5 was back with Kasia again, this time just working on breaking the blank page and creating backgrounds, with a focus on maybe using products or techniques that we don't normally use. I made a few backgrounds, including this one that featured my neglected Gelatos:
I'm looking forward to finding some more time to get to work on the next sets of lessons. It's fun to have something I can do now and then that's just for me and challenges me to go out of the box, try something new, or look at a new perspective. I like it so far!
